Further information

Volunteer Reading Help (VRH) is a national charity which provides literacy support for children aged 6 -11 in areas of deprivation across England. We work through 17 local branches in Greater London the North, the Midlands and Kent.

VRH reading helpers receive comprehensive training, ongoing support and resources including books and games. Many VRH reading helpers go on to become part of the school community. Some reading helpers discover a vocation and decide they want to work with children. For everyone, it is an opportunity to give something back to society and to inspire the next generation of readers.

Each of our 1,600 fully trained reading helpers gives 3 hours a week for a school year to help children, one-to-one, with their reading. Currently we are helping over 4,500 children per year and we wish to reach many more. We hope to create a nation of confident children, literate for life and we need your help to achieve this.
